# Number porting

> Bring your existing number to Amplify or get a new one

Keep your existing number or get a brand-new one when you start using Amplify. This ensures uninterrupted communication with your customers, partners, and vendors.

## Overview

Amplify allows you to:

* **Port (transfer) an existing number** from another provider, or
* **Purchase a new number** instantly during setup.

Porting is optional — you can start using Amplify with a new number right away if you prefer.

  Do not cancel your existing fax service until the porting process is fully completed. Canceling early may result in permanent loss of your number.

## Port existing number

Porting lets you move your current fax number from another carrier or fax provider into Amplify, so you can continue using the same number without disruption.

### What you’ll need

To submit a porting request, make sure you have:

* The \*\* number\*\* you want to transfer
* Your **current provider’s name**
* A recent **billing statement or invoice**
* Correct **account holder information** (must match your provider’s records).

    * Authorized Person's Name:

### How porting works

  <Step title="CSM team engagement">
    The support team will engage the Customer Success Management (CSM) team to assist with account management activities such as number migration or saving your existing configuration.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign authorization">
    Complete and sign a Letter of Authorization (LOA), allowing Amplify to request the transfer on your behalf.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Carrier review">
    Your current provider reviews the request and confirms eligibility. If information doesn’t match, they may reject the request.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Number transfer">
    Once approved, your number is transferred to Amplify. You’ll be notified when the process is complete.

### Porting timelines

* Most numbers transfer within **5–10 business days**
* Some carriers may take longer depending on location and number type
* There is typically **no downtime** if your existing service remains active during the process

Amplify supports porting for:

* Local numbers
* Toll-free numbers (availability may vary by region)

International porting availability depends on the originating carrier and country.

## Purchase a new number

If you don’t need to keep an existing number, you can purchase a new one instantly.

### How it works

* Choose a **country and area code** during setup
* A number is assigned to your account immediately
* Start sending and receiving faxes right away

### Why choose a new number

A new number is ideal if you:

* Are setting up faxing for the first time
* Want a dedicated number for a new department or business
* Need faster setup without waiting for porting approval

You can always port an existing number later if needed.
